About Irago

Irago has something for everyone!

The Irago Peninsula is known for it’s long and beautiful coastline. Surfers from all over Japan come here to enjoy the slow life and good waves. Irago has something for everyone though! Here is what we recommend!

Characteristics of Irago

Enjoy Fresh seafood!

Visit the fish market down the road at noon to watch all the fisherman come in and sell their daily catch. Buy your own fish to take home for dinner!
You should also try BBQ’d giant clams and fresh oysters at a restaurant along Kojigahama Beach.

Try Local Produce!

Tahara produces lots of fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables!
Go strawberry picking in winter or melon picking in summer. Try other local seasonal favorites too.

Visit the Cape Irago Lighthouse!

Walk along the coastline trail to the charming, white-walled Irago lighthouse. Explore tide pools and watch coastal birds along the way.

img

Find Happiness Amongst Fields of Yellow Flowers!

Visit the nanohana fields (rape blossoms) in winter and spring or the sunflower fields in summer. The flowers fields occasionally have fun family activities and food stalls selling local treats.

Go for a Ride!

Rent an electric earth bicycle and take a ride up the coast.

Go fishing!

Get a pole and some bait, walk to the pier and try to catch your dinner!

Golf!

Tee up with friends or business partners and enjoy a day at Irago Seaside Golf Club. It’s a fun and affordable course that is only 1 kilometer away from The Cape Guesthouse.

Hop on the ferry and take a day trip to Ise!

Visit the Toba Aquarium on the other side of the bay and watch the walrus show. Then, take the train to Japan’s most sacred shrine, Ise Jingu. Ise Shrine is the home to the solar goddess and is believed to be “the soul of Japan”
